We recommend a minimum of 6 days on the mountain
to give you the best chance of making the summit, and preferably
an extra night in Arusha or Moshi pre-climb to help you
acclimatise.
Machame route - 8 days
This is our preferred route and
is considered by many to be the most beautiful and scenic
route up Mt Kilimanjaro, passing through tropical montane
rain forest to the snows of Kilimanjaro.

Pick up from Arusha town
or Kilimanjaro International Airport.
Transfer to
a Base Hotel in Moshi.

Machame Hut
(3000 m)
Machame Gate to Machame hut.
5 to 6 hour walk, ascending through the lush rainforest
to a ridge between two streams to the hut.

Shira Plateau
(3840 m)
Machame
hut to Shira Plateau.
5-6 hour walk, initially up a steep ridge for 3-4 hours
through the moorland of the Shire Plateau, heading
straight towards the peak.
The path then drops into a
river gorge before ascending more gradually.
On
clear days, the views are absolutely breaktaking.

Barranco
(3950 m)
Shira
hut to Barranco Valley.
5 - 6 hour walk,
on undulating terrain. Initially directly up the
ridge towards Kibo & then
descending into a gorge (barranco).
Enjoy views of the Kilimanjaro mountain vegetation and
the spectacular Barranco Valley.

Barafu
(4600 m)
Barranco
Valley to Barafu Hut.
4 - 5 hour walk, cross the Barranco valley, climb the Barranco wall (not technical
climbing), then across scree & ridges to the Karanga Valley for lunch.
Enjoy
wonderful views of Kibo's southern glaciers in clear weather.
Continue from Karanga valley to Barafu Camp.
2 - 3 hour walk,
climbing up a ridge to Barafu Camp.

Uhuru Peak
(5895 m)
- Mweka
Barafu
Camp to the Summit!
Leave hut at around 2330 hrs for 6 - 7 hour climb.
Steep climb towards the Rebmann Glacier, then entering the gap between the Rebmann & Ratzel glaciers.
Arrive at the crater rim near Stella point, then on to Uhuru Summit.
1-2 Hour descent via Barafu hut, 3 - 4 hrs continuing to Mweka hut.

Mweka - Moshi
Descend
to Mweka gate & then return to Moshi to overnight
at a Base Hotel.

Moshi
After breakfast, return
to Kilimanjaro Airport for onward flight home...
